It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ollie Louella Hughes (Knightdale, North Carolina), who passed away on May 21, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Dovard Bowers Curtis and Dorothy Louise Duncan Curtis; and her siblings, Eugene Curtis, A. C. Curtis, Almetia Curtis, Willie Dean Carter, Jerry Curtis and Cecil Curtis.

She is survived by: her husband Alton "James" Hughes; her children, Renae H. Edwards, Wanda Allen (Sammy), Greg Hughes and Marty Hughes (Erica); her grandchildren, Brandon Edwards (Michelle), Kristina Hoff, Ryan Edwards (Kristin) and Justin Allen (Cordelia); and her sister Thresia C. Johnson (Michael). She is also survived by eight great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church.

“One thing that I always enjoyed is hearing Ollie playing the piano, and Renae and Wanda would join her in singing, I’ve known her all my life. Sometimes she would walk me to the end of the street where her father-in-law was building a house. My wife also had the pleasure of knowing Ollie, and thought she was so dear. Our love, thoughts, and prayers are with the Hughes family. Eddie and Gail Brown”
