She was predeceased by: her parents, Marvin Oxendine and Charity Jacobs Oxendine; her husband George Leonard Chavis; her children, Ronnie Chavis and Brenda Joyce Chavis Polston; and her siblings, Purcell Oxendine, Bonnie Hunt, Sheryl Cesenaro and Annie Ruth Jacobs.
She is survived by: her children, Leonard Junior Chavis (Monica) of Virginia and May Belle Chavis of Laurinburg; and her sisters, Elizabeth Strong of Rowland, Ruby Delfyette of Rowland and Sylvia Pittman of Laurinburg. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; a host of loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
