It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Margreate Simpson of Laurinburg, North Carolina, who passed away on April 22, 2026, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Stanton Strickland and Annie Ruth Locklear Strickland; her husbands, Harold "Bud" Simpson and James McGirt; her siblings, J. C. "Buddy" Strickland, Robert Neal Strickland, Sr., Glen "David" Strickland, Shelby Jean Strickland, Virginia Bates and Victoria Jackson; and her children-in-law, Rose Ann Strickland and Samuel Butler, Sr..
She is survived by: her children, Mitchell Strickland of Maxton and Brenda L. Butler of Maxton; her siblings, Stanton "June" Strickland of Maxton, Charles Jeffrey Strickland of Maxton, Delois Clark of Laurinburg, Louise Emanuel of Maxton, Barbara Locklear of Laurinburg and Patricia Strickland of Maxton; and her grandchildren, Mitchell Kelly Strickland, Kimberly Chavis, Kerri Strickland, Samuel Butler, Jr., Clerissa Butler and Aaron Butler. She is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving extended family.
