He was predeceased by : his parents, Jerry Epling and Verna Belcher Epling; and his brothers, Daniel Epling, Robert Epling and Goble Epling.

He is survived by : his wife Betty June Goff Epling; his children, Mitchell Dean Epling, Timothy Dwight Epling of Roxboro, NC, Kara Michele Ellis of Sutherlin, VA and Harold Andrew Reedy of Hillsville, VA; and his siblings, Eugene Epling, Justine Wright, Cathy Sowards and Bobby Epling. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Eugene Epling wrote a sympathy message

“I loved my brother so much ,Things will never be the same without him. I didn't get to see him much as we lived a long distance ,but my thoughts was always there.I just wish I could have been as good and caring as he was and I know he is in Gods hand now .He was always a very religious and caring person,My heart goes out to the family and I wish them the best and pray for his wife Betty and God look out after her.”
