He was predeceased by : his parents, Vada Walker Helton and Fred Helton; and his siblings, JC Helton, Maynard Helton, Ruby McNeil and Mary Walsh.

He is survived by : his wife Linda Watson Helton; his children, Tony Helton (Christine) of Lenoir, NC., TJ Helton (Rose) of Lenoir, NC. and Becky Morgan (Rodger) of Pennsylvania; his foster daughter Caitlyn Raynor; and his grandsons, Jacob, Aaron Helton, Bobby and Brian Short.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Blue Creek Baptist Church, 3580 Still Meadow Way, Lenoir, NC.
