He was predeceased by : his parents, Boyd Monroe and Ethel Cruise Matthews; and his sisters, Joyce Dalton and Faye Gardner. He is survived by : his wife Sherry Matthews; his children, Valerie Woodard (Don) of Lewisville, Vilia "Jenny" Jenevieve McClearen (Mike) of Winston-Salem, Terri Zappala-Morrow (James) of Philadelphia, PA, Todd Matthews (Sonia) of Winston-Salem, Miles Matthews of Winston-Salem and Jacob Matthews-Zappala of Lewisville; his grandchildren, Jackson, Kaitlyn, Madelyn, Julianna, James and Cooper; his mother-in-law Dorothy Wilson; and his sisters, Brenda Hill of Fancy Gap, VA and Dawn McGrady of Mt. Airy, NC.
