She was predeceased by: her father Clinton Nelson; her husband Rayfell Nelson; her grandparents, Rosa Lee Williams and German "Boss" Hough; her parents-in-law, Viola and William Nelson; her siblings-in-law, Audrey Nelson and Darrell Nelson; and her stepson Dominic Lashawn Nelson.
She is survived by: her mother Mary Hough Nelson; her sons, James Nelson (Monique), Rufus Nelson (Martika) and Lindsay Nelson (Nicole); her grandchildren, Rumal Ty'Quan, Ja'Quashia, Kendrick, Ny'Geil, Khaleed, Naima, Jakan, Jayla, Jaleel and Jade; her great grandchild Arianna; her nephews, Maurice Nelson (Bria) and Mario Nelson; her sisters, Juirietha Nelson Johnson and Margaret Nelson; her sister-in-law L'Tanya Nelson; her siblings' children, Jason Moore, Richard Johnson and Bridgette McFadden; and her close friend David Wansley (Lockhart).
