He was predeceased by: his parents, Rob Roy Johnson and Maggie Louise Hedrick Johnson; and his siblings, Ronald Johnson, Joel Johnson, Bobbi Dockery and Annie Mae Cooper.

He is survived by: his wife Nancy Marie Cross Johnson; his sons, Skipper Johnson (Lisa) of Lexington, Stacey Johnson of Raleigh, Michael Johnson of Charlotte and Marty Johnson of Lexington; his grandchildren, Emily Hedrick, Stella Gaskins, Asher Johnson and Aspen Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Ellie Hedrick and Gunner Hedrick.
