He was predeceased by: his parents, Melvin Monroe Starkey and Elizabeth Whitman Starkey; and his siblings, Glenn Starkey, Charles Starkey, Phyllis McLaurin, Lynda Hunt and Betty Sheriff.

He is survived by: his siblings, Nancy Barnes, Judy Barnes and Jimmy Starkey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
