He was predeceased by: his parents, Haywood Carroll and Mary Lou Carroll; his siblings, Evelyn Morgan, Hassell Carroll, Mary Lee, Ruby Jenkins and James Carroll; his daughter Kelly Marie Black; and his grandson Stephen Masten Evans.

He is survived by: his wife Betty; his daughters, Sherri Evans (Ray) of West End, NC, Becky Fitzpatrick of Chesapeake, VA, Elizabeth Graveen (Eric) of Lillington, NC and Kristie Groome (Micah) of Sandston, VA; his grandchildren, Justin Evans (Jaclyn) of Naples, FL, Brandon Evans of West End, NC, Brooks Fitzpatrick of Chesapeake, VA, Solomon Machado (Brianna) of Angier, NC, Tava, Tyler, Aaron, Terra Machado of Lillington, NC, McKayla and Christian Groome of Sandston, VA; and his great grandchild Jaycee Evans of Naples, FL.. He is also survived by many other family members and friends.
