He was predeceased by: his parents, Calvin C. Melton and Frances Elizabeth Henderson Melton; his brother Dean Melton; and his sons, Jeffrey Melton and David Melton.
He is survived by: his wife Judy Pettit Melton; and his daughters, Tamara Tate (Terry) of Rutherfordton and Keia Howerton (Phil) of Lake James. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
