He was predeceased by: his parents, John Lester Self and Bonnie Lou McClean Self. He is survived by: his wife Beverly Diane Owens Self; his children, Dale Lester Self, Wendy Oyola (Abe Oyola), Reba Lynn Wright, Marissa Cooper Winstead (Marshall Winstead) and John Andrew Self (Lacrissa Jacobs); and his grandchildren, Briona, Lauren, Kristen, Devin, Tyler, Hailey, Paige, Madison, John Jr., Elissa and Serenity. He is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 19th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Greene Funeral Service South Chapel (1503 S York Rd, Gastonia, NC 28052). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 19th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Sunday, October 19th 2025 at the Hollywood Cemetery (540 N Broad St, Gastonia, NC 28052).
