He was predeceased by: his parents, Eural Abernethy and Ella Goodson Abernethy; his wife Jeanne Walkup Abernethy; and his sister Marcene Beal. He is survived by: his son Jason Abernethy (Kristi) of Lincolnton; his sisters, Hazeleen Richards of Lincolnton and Kay Calloway (Dwight) of Denver; his grandson Kyle Abernethy of Lincolnton; and his stepgrandchildren, Landon Bullock (Abby) of Denver and Lola Bullock of Lincolnton.
