He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Claude and Edith "Eula" Rathbone Carpenter; his wife Judy Lewis Carpenter; and his brothers, Kenneth Wayne Carpenter and Albert Claude Carpenter.
He is survived by: his children, David Carpenter of Lincolnton, Randy Carpenter and Beth George (Dennis) of Vale; his brother Gene Carpenter of Lincolnton; and his grandchildren, Ryan Waters, Emily Peeler and Ellie George.
