She was predeceased by: her parents, Lawrence Zero Mathis and Dolly Ruth Kirksey Mathis; her husband Eli David Helms; her daughter Rhonda JoAnn H. Gillian; and her siblings, John Lawrence Mathis, Boyce Eugene Mathis and Judy M. Cooley.
She is survived by: her sons, David Leroy Helms of Denver, Roger Dale Helms of Denver, Carroll Ray Helms of Denver, Daniel Eli Helms of Maiden, Gary Albert Helms of Denver and Elvis Glen Helms of Denver; and her siblings, Joe Arnold Mathis of Newton and Shirley M. Heafner of Catawba. She is also survived by nineteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
