He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Russel Shirley and Dorothy Green Shirley; and his wife Joyce Mae Shirley. He is survived by: his children, Johnny "Wayne" Shirley of Fayetteville and Patricia A. Carney of St. Pauls; his grandson Nelson Lee Emmons; and his great grandchildren, Gina Emmons and Nelson "Daniel" Emmons. He is also survived by extended family members and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Antioch Church of God (542 Shaw Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28303). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 15th 2026 at 7:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cumberland Memorial Gardens (4509 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304).
