He was predeceased by: his parents, Cranford Alton Whitley and Lizzie Hatley Whitley; and his sister Louise Whitley Morris. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Faye Whitley; his brothers, Max Whitley (Judy) and Avera Whitley (Sarah); his children, Trent Whitley (Karen) and Suzanne Efird (Rusty); his grandsons, Shane Efird (Amanda), Beau Efird, Jacob Whitley (Isabella) and Luke Whitley (Jodi); and his great grandchildren, Wyatt, Walker, Hudson and Ellis.

Visitation was held on Monday, January 12th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at the Canton Baptist Church (24615 Endy Rd, Albemarle, NC 28001). A funeral service was held on Monday, January 12th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
