He was predeceased by: his parents, George Asbury Hammond and Mae Belle Gause Hammond; his siblings, Marvin Hammond, George Elton Hammond and Ann Hammond Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Tommy Rogers and Sadie Hammond.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Mountjoy Hammond; his sons, David Asbury Hammond, Jr. (Renee Brock Hammond) and Steven Kyle Hammond (Amanda Myers Hammond); his grandchildren, Dylan, Kayle, Madalyn Black, Gregory and Anna Hammond; his siblings, Clyde Hammond (Annette), Susie Rogers, Doris Horne (Wayne) and Sondra Guyton (Clifton); his siblings-in-law, Margaret Hammond, Millie Hammond and Lacy Farril Smith Jr.; and his pet Toby.
