He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Chavis and Ellen Chavis; his brothers, Earl Chavis, Ronald Chavis and Marvin Chavis; and his grandson Christopher Dwayne Oxendine.
He is survived by: his wife Audrey Sampson Chavis; his children, Edie Locklear (Ricky) of Mooresville, NC, Jamie Chavis (Mary) of Holden Beach, NC and Tammy Chavis (Rebecca) of Lumberton, NC.; and his grandchildren, Bonnie Conner (Daniel) of Chapel Hill, NC and Ashton Dugan (Marshall) of Mooresville, NC.. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
