He was predeceased by: his parents, Earlist Chavis and Emma Mae Chavis; his wife Marilyn Harris Chavis; and his brothers, Ernest Chavis, Austin "Sandy" Chavis, Ralph Chavis and Martin Chavis.
He is survived by: his children, John Alford Chavis (Lena) and Amy Carol Cox (Shane); his grandsons, Austin Cox and Matthew Cox; and his siblings, Agnes Mitchell (Harry) of Lumberton, NC and Bobby Chavis of Lumberton, NC.
