He was predeceased by : his parents, Willie Chavis and Docia Chavis. He is survived by : his wife Lena Chavis; his daughter Debbie Chavis Locklear (Gene); his grandson Devyn Ray Locklear (Kelsey Lamb); his great grandchildren, Salarah, Sadayla, Laniyah and Daenerys; his grandson Mark Frederick Locklear Jr. (Victoria Locklear); and his siblings, Earl Chavis, Billy Chavis (Jane) and Jeanette Locklear.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Revels Funeral Home (3575 N Roberts Ave, Lumberton, NC 28360). A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.
