He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Elwood and Gladys Butler Overton; his in-laws, Murry and Helen Fleming; his siblings, Melvin Overton and Betty Dunlow; and his sister-in-law Lois Skinner.
He is survived by: his wife Merle Fleming Overton; his daughters, Kimberly Overton Spahos (Chuck) and Kelli Overton Gilly (Kevin); his grandchildren, Hannah, Sarah Grace, Jameson and Shelby Gilly; his brother James Overton; his siblings-in-law, David Fleming (Melissa), Donnie Skinner, Jessie Fleming (Jane) and Denise Key; and his caregiver Nancy Harrell. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM at the Eagles Baptist Church (184 NC-124, Macclesfield, NC 27852). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to the Eagles Baptist Church, We Care Fund, 226 NC HWY 124 W, Macclesfield, NC 27852.
