She was predeceased by: her parents, Johnny Purdy and Lula Belle Young Purdy; and her husband Paul Edward Southern. She is survived by: her children, Richard Southern (Willie), Dean Southern (Amy), Ricky Southern (Michael Grant) and Sherry Southern Dunlap; her grandchildren, Kristie Galloway, Darryl Griffin, Jr., John Griffin, Kayla Hall, Michael Southern, Tashonda Southern, Richie Southern, Amanda Berry, Gary Callahan, Daniel Callahan and Jimmy Southern; and her siblings, Clarence Purdy and Dot Vernon. She is also survived by twenty-four great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel (127 Ellisboro Rd, Madison, NC 27025).
