He was predeceased by: his wife Nita Dockery Shelton; his parents, Harlin Dugan and Dessie Cutshall Shelton; and his siblings, Veva Shelton Shipley and James Shelton.
He is survived by: his children, Nina Shelton Ponder (Gerald Ponder) and Paul "Buddy" Hensley (Anna Franklin Hensley); his grandchildren, Cristina Ponder Guthrie (Dalton Guthrie), Peyton Fillers, Baylee Hensley and Raelynn Hensley; his great grandchild River Benson Guthrie; and his siblings, Reva Shelton Cutshall, Bertha Shelton Cody and Grady Shelton. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral and Cremation Service (7626 NC-213, Mars Hill, NC 28754). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
