He was predeceased by: his parents, Max Stein and Valerie Woodruff Stein; and his siblings, Stephen and Annie. He is survived by: his wife Genivee Stein; his daughter Mellisa Stein of Danville, VA; his stepchildren, Woody Whichard (Johnna) of Madison, NC and Heidi Newman (Jim) of Madison, NC; his grandson Christopher Bingham (Mackenzie); his great grandchild Ruby Jean of Kingsport, TN; his brother Ben Stein (Sandy) of Long Island, NY; and his close friend Bob Rodenbough (Catherine) of Madison.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 21st 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Colonial Funeral Home (127 Ellisboro Rd, Madison, NC 27025).
