He was predeceased by: his parents, C. B. Yates and Hester Adele Dixon Yates; his daughter Marguerite "Marri" Yates; his brother Douglas B. Yates; and also John Christopher.
He is survived by: his wife Doreen Welch Yates; his children, Robert G. Yates, Jr. (Marlene), Sabrina Craft, Dusty Wade Nester (Abbey) and Marti "Dane" W. Nester; his grandchildren, Robert "Bobby" Yates, III (Brenna), James Benjamin Yates (Katelynn), Harper Mills Nester and Ryane Olivia Wade Nester; his son Bret Arnold; his mother-in-law Doris Langlois Watson; his siblings-in-law, Marie Yates, Donna Jaye Watson and Loren Ward Watson; and his pet Sue. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren; special friend.
A reception will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Colonial Funeral Home (127 Ellisboro Rd, Madison, NC 27025).
