He is survived by : his niece Rene Thorton; his wife Gwendolyn Murphy DeVane of Magnolia, NC; his son Ernest Tyrone DeVane III (ClarLynda Williams); his grandsons, Ernest Tylin DeVane, IV and Edward Tyler DeVane of Garner, NC.; his siblings, Brenda D. Spearman (Ben) of Garner, NC, Glenda Bowens of Wallace, NC, Sandra DeVane (Stanley) of Ivanhoe, NC, Cynthia Ratliff of Wallace, NC and Eric DeVane (Ivanhoe); and his cousin Paulette DeVane. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.
