He was predeceased by: his parents, I. J. Mathis and Alice Dean Carter Mathis; and his siblings, Kenneth Wayne Mathis and Nancy Mathis. He is survived by: his children, Danny Mathis of Rose Hill, Edward Mathis of Beulaville and Melanie Merritt of Beulaville; and his siblings, Tommy Mathis of Kenansville, Elizabeth Spann of Chinquapin, Jean Blanton of Rose Hill and Betty Mathis Harris of Warsaw. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
