He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert James and Alice Mae Freeman James; and his sisters, Eunice Melvin (Edward), Sharon Weeks and Sheryl Cannon (Mose).

He is survived by : his children, Juanita James, Angela Imes, Regina Highsmith (Delmas) and Otis Earl James (Latesa); and his brothers, Napoleon James, Anthony Rydell James, Kelvin James (Carmela) and Herbert James. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
