She was predeceased by: her parents, Frank Montgomery Saunders and Zettie Dellinger Saunders; her husband Billy E. Abernathy; and her siblings, Paul Saunders, Marshall Saunders, Floyd Saunders, Betty Stroupe, Alice Saunders and Mabel Goodson.
She is survived by: her son Terry Abernathy (Karen) of Lincolnton; her granddaughter Callahan "Callie" Grace Abernathy of Lincolnton; and her sister-in-law Hazel Saunders of Lincolnton. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and her beloved church family.
Memorials may be made to Mt. View Baptist Church in Maiden.
