He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Gard and Doris O. Gard. He is survived by: his brothers, Jerry Gard (Tammy) and Kenneth Gard (Cathy); his siblings' children, Michelle Haflin (Kevin), Jeff Gard (Nina), Jason Gard (Melissa), Chory Gard (Joana), Brandon Gard (Ashley), Paul Perkinson (Amy) and Zippy Gard (Heather); his cousin Brenda Belote; and his close friend Elaine Piddington. He is also survived by five great-nephews; three great-nieces.
