We announce the death of Rachel Powers Sholar of Maple Hill, North Carolina, who passed away on September 28, 2026, at the age of 92. She was predeceased by: her parents, K. S. Powers and Hester Armstrong Powers; her husband Leon Harold Sholar (Sam); her in-laws, McLeon and Mildred Andrews Sholar; and her siblings-in-law, Doris Hartley Powers, Anna Maude Sholar, Shelby Sholar Hunter and James Hunter.

She is survived by: her close friend Frank Dixon of Maple Hill; her children, Sherrel Sholar Bunn (Eddie) of Wilmington, Kent Sholar (Judy) of Raleigh and Todd Sholar of Wallace; her grandchildren, Jill Henderson Morris (Will) of Wilmington, Jade Sholar Cole (Chance) of West Jefferson, Melissa Bunn (Eric) of Wilmington and Jason Bunn (Angie) of Mocksville; her great grandchildren, Sydney Morris of Wilmington and Rosalie Cole of West Jefferson; her daughter-in-law Bonita Cavenaugh of Wallace; her brother Jimmie Powers of Kinston; and her sibling-in-law Jackye Sholar of Dunn, NC. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Mt. Williams Cemetery (Perpetual Care Fund) 2110 NC Hwy 53 West, Burgaw, NC 28425 (make check to Mt. Williams Cemetery) or a charity of one's choice.
