He was predeceased by: his parents, James Kermit Childers, Sr. and Anna Lee McMillan Childers; and his brothers, James K. Childers, Jr., Larry Childers and Harry Childers.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Sprinkle Childers; his children, Donald Christopher Childers (Missey) and Melanie Childers Ross (Michael); his grandchildren, Bethani Childers, Dylan Paul Childers, Larissa Childers, Luke Childers, Alayna Ross and Jacob Ross; and his brother Boyd Childers (Cami).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Gideon's International.
