He is survived by : his mother Earlene Hall Self Buchanan (Scott); his wife Tammy Elliott Self; his sons, Edward "Chantz" Self (Lillian Nadal) and Colton Self; his sister Becky Jenkins (Larry Laws); and his nephews, Luke Jenkins and Bobby Jenkins.

He was a faithful supporter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
