He was predeceased by: his parents, Dewey Varner, Sr. and Mary Lou Smith Varner; his son David; and his siblings, Brenda Hines (Jim) and Bobby (Rita).

He is survived by: his wife Betty Gene Mills; and his brothers, Dewey, Jr. (Darlene), Wayne (Meghan) and Gary (Suzanne). He is also survived by nephews, nieces, and in-laws.
