He was predeceased by: his father Charlie Mills Hensley; his wife Cheryl Hensley; and his daughter Crystal Porter. He is survived by: his son John Hensley, Jr. (Tish); his grandchildren, Blake Hensley, Cassidy Hensley, Cade Hensley and Jeffrey Porter (Rebekah); his siblings, Ann Powell (Freddie), Faye Marlowe (Frankie), Gail Hensley, Pat (Larry Vaughn) and Norman (Wanda Arrowood); and his close friends, Ned and Inez Roland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church, 2823 Ashworth Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
