It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Karleen Franklin Metcalf (Mars Hill, North Carolina), who passed away on May 7, 2026, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Nelson Franklin and Norma Jean Rice Franklin; her husband Joe Lynn Metcalf; and her sisters, June Henderson and Ruby Gosnell.
She is survived by: her daughters, Mary Carney and Melissa Coates; her siblings, Imo Plemmons, Emma Hurst and Oscar Franklin; her grandchildren, Steven V. Adams II (Ashley) and Ryan Coates; and her great grandchild Matthew Bowden. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends.
