He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Laney and Frances Hargette Laney; his grandson Spencer Laney; and his siblings, Rhonda McClain and Donnie Laney.
He is survived by: his children, David Laney Jr. (Jackie) of Weatherford, OK, Amber Laney Helms (Brian) of Marshville, NC, Jeannie Laney Sawyer (Brandon) of Marshville, NC and John Taylor (Rebecca) of Wilmington, NC.; his grandchildren, Lawson Laney of Weatherford, OK, Jeston Laney (Bailey) of Weatherford, OK, Eli Laney of Weatherford, OK, Shelby Helms Tate (Austin) of Monroe, NC, Olivia Sawyer Hall (Daniel) of Quantico, VA, Evan Sawyer of Marshville, NC, Wyatt Laney of Wilmington, NC. and Kayden Laney of Wilmington, NC.; and his great grandchildren, Percy Hall and Milo Hall of Quantico, VA..
