“I am so sorry to hear of Gary's passing. He and I last spoke on his birthday last year. He and I first became friends a long time ago, when he was still writing for the Chicago Tribune, and from then on. He was incredibly gifted, wickedly funny, and really, an all-around great guy. I will miss him. At least we know he is reunited with his dear, late wife. Sending his family my very sincere condolences.”
