It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Howard Vance Barkley Sr. (Matthews, North Carolina), who passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Novella Barkley and James Archie Barkley; his sister Mary Lois Barkley Lee; and his granddaughter Bailey Nicole Hamrick. He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Barkley; his children, Noel Barkley Hamrick and Howard Vance Barkley, Jr. (Courtney); and his grandchildren, Chipper, Turner Hamrick and Adrienne Hamons. He is also survived by three nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Idlewild Baptist Church, Butler High School Athletics in memory of "Pops Barkley," or the Independence High School Baseball Program.
