He was predeceased by: his parents, English Barton (Black) and Allie Bertha Locklear Barton (Bird); his wife Geneva Barton; his granddaughter Brittany Hunt; and his siblings, Hubert Barton (Bo), Louis Barton (Bunk), Johnny Barton (Bossy), L. B. Barton, Homer Barton, Herbert Barton (Top), Mary Lee Jones (Mable) and Barbara Ann Collins.
He is survived by: his children, Rev. Charles Barton (Melissa), Sherry Osuna and Annette Hodges; and his sisters, Faye Bullard (Bobby), Annie Faye Chavis, Caroline Locklear (Can), Doris Barton and Pauline Miller (Gus). He is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Heritage Funeral Home (812 S Main St, Red Springs, NC 28377). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Hoke County Church of God (1800 Balfour Rd, Red Springs, NC 28377).
