He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Deese and Sallie Thompson Deese; his sister Maxine Deese; his brother-in-law James Ronald Chavis; his stepmother Mary Martin Bell Deese; and his stepsister Jeannie Bell Nichols.
He is survived by: his significant other Dr. Delton Johnson; his sister Diane Deese Chavis of Pembroke; his nephews, Jordan Chavis (Victoria) of Chapel Hill and James Ryan Chavis of Brooklyn, NY; his great-niece Miss Nora James Chavis; his stepsister Marty Bell-Knell (Donnie) of Wake Forest; and his close friends, Loretta Mosely of Pembroke, Tammie Jump of Lumberton and Chris Snell of Pembroke.
