She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Winston May and Callie Crews May; her son Joseph D. Abernathy, Jr.; and her siblings, Vivian May Sapp and Clyde H. May.
She is survived by: her children, Elizabeth A. Craig (Mike) and John Samuel Abernathy (Dixie); her sisters, Dorothy May Brown and Hazel May Emmerling; her grandchildren, James Daniel Craig (Katie), Anna Craig Swanek (Carson), John Samuel Abernathy, Jr., Rachel Rebekah Abernathy, Jordan Elizabeth Abernathy, Baylee Abernathy and Jacob Abernathy; and her great grandchildren, Lillian Elizabeth, Graham Michael Swanek and Harper Elizabeth Craig. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
