He was predeceased by: his parents, James Thompson Painter and Wilma Doris Robertson Painter; and his sister Janet Painter Coup. He is survived by: his wife Hilda Boykin Painter; his daughters, Kristin P. Pearce (Joe) of Youngsville, NC and Leigh P. Gibson (Jeff) of Frisco, TX; his stepchildren, Randy Boykin of Richmond, VA and Sue Talley (Bubba) of Roaring Gap, NC; and his grandchildren, Rudy Vallee Pearce III, Courtney Renee Pearce (Zach), Colten James Gibson, Cannen John Gibson (Elle), Camren Jeffrey Gibson, Kevin Boykin and Daniel Watts (Charlie Beth).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, November 4th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory (944 Old Knight Rd, Knightdale, NC 27545). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Lee's Chapel Baptist Church (14551 Taylors Mill Rd, Middlesex, NC 27557).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lee's Chapel Church in support of the Blessing Project, a mission outreach program assisting victims of Hurricane Helene—a cause that was especially close to Jimmy's heart and one he felt led to support.
