He was predeceased by: his mother Phoebe Shanley; and his brother Randy. He is survived by: his father Richard Alapeck (Deidre) of Mint Hill, NC; his siblings, Richard Alapeck of Mint Hill, Scott Alapeck (Jodi) of Endicott, NY and Lisa Alapeck of Hickory, NC.; and his siblings' children, Blake, Benjamin, Taylor, Bridgette, Natalie and Lori Beth.

“I met Kirk in 1974 in St. Vincent, NY in the Thousand Islands when our families vacationed there. I remember playing cards with him and his brother and we instantly became friends because we were both into music. We stayed in touched for a while via letters but eventually lost touch when I went to college for music in 1978 for music ed. What a positive soul that guy was. I have thought of him now and then in the 40+ years since that summer. RIP my friend.”
