He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Edward Wilhelm and Zelia Redwine Wilhelm; and his brothers, Frank Eugene Wilhelm, Captain Murry Wilhelm, Jerry Wilhelm and George Wilhelm.

He is survived by: his wife Brenda Helms Wilhelm; his sons, James E. Wilhelm Jr. (Tresa) and Jason L. Wilhelm (Andrea); and his grandchildren, Logan Wilhelm, Peyton Wilhelm and Luna Wilhelm.
