He was predeceased by: his parents, Jeptha and Elizabeth; his brother Don; and his granddaughter Maeghan Edwards. He is survived by: his former wife Janet McKnight; his children, Sharon Green (Butch), Dale Smarr (Randy), Tamara Sexton, Mika Edwards (Dion), Judith Downs (Scott) and Jonathan Barbee (Brandi); and his sister Martha Blackwell. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at the Hopewell Baptist Church (420 Hopewell Church Rd, Monroe, NC 28110). A memorial service was held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. The inurnment was held on Thursday, October 15th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the Lakeview Memory Gardens (1774 Filbert Hwy, York, SC 29745).
