He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Benfield and Julia Lambert Benfield; his wife Elizabeth "Polly" Hoke Benfield; his siblings, Grady, Coyt, Harry Lee, Clayton, James, Vera, Helen, Julia and Patty Sue; and his niece Mitzi Gatten.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 22nd 2026 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at the Glenwood Memorial Park (273 Glenwood Dr, Mooresville, NC 28115).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
