He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael J. Spitzer and Loretta R. Spitzer; his son Joseph; and his brothers, William, Robert (Violet) and Michael (Marie).

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Campbell Spitzer; and his children, Kathy Spitzer-Tremblay (Steve), John Spitzer (Regina) and Jennifer Dill (Thomas). He is also survived by grandchildren; nieces and a nephew.
