He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Lloyd Carlton and Hassie Hayes Carlton; his siblings, Dorothy Carlton, Flossie Carlton, Everette Carlton, Fredrick Carlton, Edward Lee Carlton and Ferlon Carlton; and his father-in-law Rev. Fred Carlton.
He is survived by: his wife Gloria Ann Carlton; his children, Sherry Carlton Horton (Steven) of Moravian Falls, Sheila Carlton of Greensboro, Shawn Carlton of Moravian Falls and Sheldon Carlton of Moravian Falls; his grandchildren, Kendrick Horton (Kendall), Shawntae Carlton, Autumn Gilligan, Jakima Carlton, Olivia Miller and Jordan Gilligan; his great grandchild Maverick Horton; his sister Elsie Barnes of Moravian Falls; his mother-in-law Florence Ferguson Carlton; and his sisters-in-law, Loretta C. Parsons and Annie Lois Carlton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home (270 Armory Rd, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Piney Grove Baptist Church (3795 NC-18, Moravian Falls, NC 28654). A burial will be held on Sunday, October 4th 2026 at the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery (3795 NC-18, Moravian Falls, NC 28654).
